Welcome to 2013

Happy New Year!

So this is really late today – blame Archie! He pretended he was really poorly and in lots of pain so I had to break up my day at the laptop to take him to the vet, by which time of course he felt better…they think he got stung by an insect in the garden and that the effects had worn off by the time the vet could see him! I think he was just being a baby!!  So here I am, much later than intended writing my first blog post of 2013…

I hope you have all had a fabulously relaxing Christmas? I have to admit that I failed…

I struggle with relaxation and I think because I know that I make sure that I fill any time off with so much stuff that I don’t have chance to notice how bad I am at doing nothing! End result – I almost had a total melt-down on 28th/29th December…bad enough I even thought about going to see my GP…but I managed to get a grip & make myself be still for a few days and I’m feeling much, much better now.

Christmas and the prospect of a new year can be incredibly stressful times for lots of reasons, and I piled extra stress on myself this year by undertaking to finish some work in my kitchen and revamp & decorate my bathroom. The kitchen was easy – bit faffy but not much of a problem in that I could just get on with it in my own time and still keep the puppy occupied at the same time.

The bathroom, however, was another story. I needed help (which meant waiting for and relying on other people); it didn’t all go according to plan; it interrupted normal living (as in there was no shower for 3 days!) & it meant the puppy was on his own for long spells at a time which made me feel bad.

Final outcomes of my stressful break:

  • both projects are done (just a little finishing off to do in the bathroom but it can wait a while)
  • I’m really pleased with the results
  • Jake & I are now (thankfully) back on speaking terms
  • I realise that I need to get better at relaxing & have set that as one of my goals for 2013
  • I have taken time out over the past week to go to the cinema, eat well, watch lots of episodes of Homeland, have a facial and a massage, sit in a coffee shop, mooch around a few shops & I bought a new book

So all’s well that ends well and I’m glad I can get busy with work again next week!!

I do hope your Christmas was not like mine – but if it was, learn from it, let it go & do it better next time – that’s what I’m going to do!!

If you read my email earlier in the week you will know that I have signed up to the Metabolic Effect 4-week Jumpstart Program which starts on Monday. I decided that it would give me a really good focus for January primarily so that I can get back into the habit of regular exercise.

Having followed ME programs before I know that they work well for me because everything is delivered as a series of daily emails so that there is a ‘call to action’ every day (ie. a kick up the backside!!). The ME team are great at sharing some really awesome materials and their focus is on helping people to make lasting changes & learn how to live a fat-loss lifestyle that suits their personal metabolism.

If you feel that you would also benefit from following the ME 4-week Jumpstart Program, it’s not too late to sign up – just click here to see a short video from Jade Teta where he tells you about the program and how it can help you. It would be great to have some company on my 4-week Jumpstart journey!

What’s happening next week?

Super-circuits:

  • is back on Mondays at 7pm starting this week (7th January)
  • high intensity interval training (HIIT) is perfect for fat-loss as well as fitness
  • don’t be put off by the HIIT bit – you can moderate every exercise to suit you, you can rest when you need to & you will have so much fun you’ll wonder where the time went!

Fitness Pilates:

  • FP 6 & 7 start this Friday (11th January at 10.20am & 11.20am respectively
  • there are still some spaces at 11.20am so please contact me if you want to find a leaner, longer & stronger body this year
  • FP 5 starts next week on Monday 14th January at 8.10pm

Personal Training:

  • all PT sessions resume from Monday 7th unless we have made other arrangements
  • please give some thought to your goals for the next few months & how specifically I can help you…
  • I’ll be collecting weights & measurements during the first week so you might want to clean up your eating/drinking over the weekend??
  • the camera will be out too…!
  • look forward to seeing you soon

Bootcamps:

  • all sessions resume from Monday 7th
    • DCPS on Mon, Weds & Fri at 6.15-7am
    • Benenden on weekdays at 9am
  • the focus in January will be on:
    • easing back into exercise if you’ve had a couple of weeks off
    • improving mobility & core strength
    • gradually increasing fitness & stamina as the month progresses
  • in February we will be hitting the ground running with a fitness test in the first week – you have been warned!!

Sessions in January are as follows:

DCPS @ 6.15am:

  • Mondays – Snakes & Ladders – a pyramid workout targetting all the main muscle groups of the body
  • Wednesdays – ME Outdoors plus abs – the ultimate fat-burning workout
  • Fridays – Boxfit

Benenden @ 9am:

  • Thursddays – ME Old School – remember the original ME classes we did? still great for fat-burning but without the shuttle sprints
  • Fridays – toning circuits based on varying work:rest ratios

So that’s all I’ve got for you tonight.

I’m up early tomorrow for a course in London and it’s already way past my bedtime so I’m going to sign off, but I’m really looking forward to seeing you all again next week.

Have a lovely weekend & happy new year!

Jane x
